Ambulatory Anesthesiology
Welcome to Ronald Reagan UCLA Ambulatory Surgery Center. We are pleased to invite you to our practice, where our expert team of anesthesiologists provide anesthesia for a broad range of specialties such as; General Surgery, Gynecology, Gastroenterology, Ophthalmology, Oral Surgery, Orthopedics, Hand Surgery ,Otolaryngology (ENT), Pain Management, Plastic Surgery, Podiatry, Pediatrics, Urology, and Audiology.
Our center offers 13 operating rooms/procedure rooms to provide safe patient care in a convenient, high quality environment. The procedures are performed in an outpatient setting, where patients will stay in the recovery room for a few hours until ready to be discharged home or will stay for overnight observation.
Although our center is a free standing surgery center, but in case of an unforeseen emergency that needs hospital admission Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center is adjacent to our center, and a specialized transport team will transport the patient to the hospital.
Types of anesthesia provided depend on the patient’s medical status and the procedure, and includes:
- General anesthesia: patient is not conscious.
- Regional anesthesia: local anesthetic is injected by anesthesiologist to provide numbness in certain parts of the body. This type of anesthesia could be used for pain control during and/or after the surgery.
- Monitored anesthesia care: anesthesiologist provides sedation through intravenous medication.
The anesthesiologist will meet the patient prior to the surgery and discuss the medical history, laboratory results, and the anesthesia plan. In the operating room a member of the anesthesia care team will be with the patient through out the procedure. After the completion of the procedure patient will be taken to the recovery room and a nurse will be monitoring the patient and provide medications to minimize pain, nausea and vomiting as needed. The next day after the surgery a nurse from ambulatory surgery center will call the patients as a follow up.
Our mission at Ronald Reagan UCLA Ambulatory Surgery Center is to provide excellent patient care along with superb resident education in an academic environment.
